--- 4 November, The United Kingdom redraws the border between Egypt (مصر) and Anglo-Egyptian Sudan (السودان اﻹنجليزي المصري) in an attempt to better reflect tribal boundaries. This will cause a border dispute where both Egypt and Sudan claim the Halaib Triangle (مثلث حلايب) and deny ownership of Bir Tawil (بير طويل).

--- 17 December, Orville and Wilbur Wright achieve the first manned flight with a motorized airplane with the Wright Flyer, a biplane, at Kitty Hawk, South Carolina.

--- 17 October, Dr. Arthur Korn sends the first long-distance picture using light-sensitive selenium cells. The photo is of Crown Prince Wilhelm of the German Empire (Deutsches Reich) and is sent over a distance of 1,800 km.

--- 30 June, A large asteroid explodes mid-air in Yeniseysk Governate (Енисе́йская губе́рния) in the Russian Empire (Российская империя). This flattens large amounts of forests and devastates the local ecosystem. This event, referred to as the Tunguska event (Тунгу́сский фено́мен), is the largest impact event on Earth in recorded history as of 2025.

--- 20 February, Hiroo Onoda (小野田 寛郎), an officer in the former Imperial Japanese Army, is found, still believing that he is fighting in World War II (第二次世界大戦), when in reality the war ended 29 years prior. In hiding, Onoda killed up to 30 civilians.

--- 16 May, India (भारत) and Bangladesh (বাংলাদেশ) sign an agreement to exchange land in an attempt to fix the large number of enclaves between the two. While it is ratified by Bangladesh, India ends up not ratifying it.

--- 11 September, The Atari Video Computer System (VCS, later renamed to the Atari 2600), the first major video game home console, is released by Atari, inc. It is a part of the second generation of consoles and will go on to sell over 30 million units.

--- 19 April, Space Invaders (スペースインベーダー), a shoot 'em up game and one of the earliest major successes in video games, is released to arcades in Japan (日本) by the Taito Corporation (株式会社タイトー). It will soon become the best-selling game as well as the highest-grossing entertainment product of its time and highest-grossing video game of all time as of 2025.

--- 1 October, Activision, Inc., the first third-party video game developer for consoles and a major developer going forward, is founded in Sunnyvale, California by former Atari 2600 game developers unhappy with their treatment and lack of recognition.

--- Late 1980, Atari files a lawsuit against Activision. It will end up being settled out-of-court with Activision agreeing to pay royalties.

--- 12 August, MicroSoft Disc Operating System (MS-DOS) is released by Microsoft. It will soon become the most used operating system for IBM PCs.

--- September, Activision, Inc. releases their breakout title Pitfall!, developed by David Crane.

--- Summer, After Coleco shows the ADAM computer playing Donkey Kong, Atari threatens to sue Nintendo (任天堂), who threaten to sue Coleco, causing the deal for Atari to sell the Famicom system in the U.S. to be delayed and ultimately fall through.

--- 24 January, Apple releases the Macintosh, a major step forward in the popularity of computers. Unlike the popular DOS operating systems, Mac OS features a graphical user interface. This is the first major use of GUI in an OS.

--- 3 November, Hazmat workers first show up to clean Mexia supermarket, which owners had abandoned without cleaning out earlier in the year. The store is labeled a biohazard due to its severely rotted food and dangerous air and becomes infamous.

Microsoft Corp. court case ends with Microsoft being ordered to split into two different sections in response to its monopolistic tactics used against Netscape and other software. After a later appeal, Microsoft is no longer required to split, but only to modify business practices.

--- 7 January, Apple releases Safari, an internet browser built into their operating systems.

--- 2 February, During a performance for the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show, Janet Jacksons right breast and nipple is exposed by Justin Timerlake, likely accidentally. This causes media outrage, mostly aimed at Jackson due to the puritan media outrage common at the time.

--- 9 November, The Mozilla Foundation, a nonprofit organization, releases Firefox, an open-source browser and spiritual successor to Netscape Navigator.

--- 4 October, Samy Kamkay releases the worm JS.Spacehero to MySpace, which adds "but most of all, samy is my hero" to the profile page, sends Samy a friend request, and plants itself to spread further. While intended to only affect a few dozen people the worm will quickly spread exponentially, causing Samy to delete the code and contact MySpace in panic. The worm will also cause MySpace itself to temporarily shut down and will become the fastest-spreading virus of all time as of 2025.

--- 2 September, Google releases the Chrome internet browser as a public beta. Chrome is built off of Chromium and will eventually become the most used and the de-facto browser.

--- 10 June, Apple releases iOS 7, overhauling the UI design previously present to be less textured and more minimalist. While praised by most, it also contributes to the death of flat UI design throughout the 2010s which many will grow to hate.

--- 16 June, Jeremiah Heaton claims Bir Tawil as the Kingdom of North Sudan due to it being unclaimed as a method of making his daughter a princess.

--- September, The Dinosaur Game, a side-scrolling browser game, is released on Google Chrome.

--- 6 June, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi ratifies the 1974 land agreement with Bangladesh, exchanging over 250 enclaves.

--- 9 July, Microsoft replaces the outdated and infamously slow Internet Explorer browser with Microsoft Edge. Edge is built off of and keeps much of the branding of Internet Explorer.

--- 1 September, Google announces a change in their logo, with flat and geometric letters more similar to those of the Alphabet logo. The change will lead to controversy with many disliking it but will also be a major factor in the coming trend companies "simplifying" their logos, which will become infamous and hated over the years.

--- 15 January, A fully rebuilt version of Microsoft Edge is released, replacing the previous browser, which is rebranded as Edge Legacy. The new browser is built with Chromium and has new branding, including a new logo.

--- 20 May, The cloud-based data storage company, Snowflake, Inc. faces a major security breach, when the hacker group ShinyHunters gets access to the system and leaks Ticketmaster data on to the internet for the purposes of extortion.

--- 24 June, The 2025 New York City Democratic mayoral primary takes place. Zohran Mandani recieves 43.82%, former mayor Andrew Cuomo recieves 36.12%, and Brad Lander recieves 11.26%. In the second round, Mamdani will win with 56.39% while Cuomo will get 43.61%.
